Overview
The High Kick Carbon Fiber Trunk Spoiler is one of the most popular aerodynamic upgrades for the Toyota A90 GR Supra. This is a fully adhesive installation — no drilling required. The spoiler bonds directly to the trunk lid using high-strength automotive adhesive tape, the same method used for factory fender flares, body kits, and OEM spoilers.
Estimated Time: 30–60 minutes (+ 24h cure)
Difficulty: Beginner
Fitment: Toyota GR Supra A90 / A91 MK5 (2019–2024)
What's in the Box
- High Kick Carbon Fiber Trunk Spoiler
- High-strength black automotive adhesive tape (pre-applied or included separately)
- Surface prep wipe / isopropyl alcohol pad
Required Tools
- Isopropyl alcohol (70%+) and clean microfiber cloths
- Masking tape or painter's tape
- Measuring tape or ruler
- Heat gun or hair dryer
- Helping hands or a second person (strongly recommended)
No drilling, no cutting, no bodywork. This is a clean, reversible adhesive installation.
Step-by-Step Installation
Step 1 — Clean the Trunk Lid Surface
Wipe down the entire trunk lid surface with isopropyl alcohol and a clean microfiber cloth. Remove all wax, polish, grease, and contaminants. This is the most important step — adhesive bond strength depends entirely on a clean, bare surface. Allow to dry fully before proceeding.
Step 2 — Warm Up the Surface
Use a heat gun or hair dryer to gently warm the trunk lid surface and the adhesive tape on the spoiler to around 20–30°C. Warm adhesive bonds significantly stronger and conforms better to the paint surface. Do not overheat — just warm to the touch.
Step 3 — Dry-Fit and Mark Position
Without removing the adhesive liner, place the spoiler on the trunk lid and check alignment. Use masking tape to mark the exact position on both sides. Step back and verify it is centered and level from multiple angles before committing.
Step 4 — Apply the Spoiler
With a second person holding the spoiler, peel back the adhesive liner. Carefully align the spoiler to your marked position and press it down firmly from the center outward. Apply steady, even pressure along the entire base for at least 60 seconds.
⚠️ You have one shot. Once the adhesive contacts the paint, repositioning is not possible without risking paint damage. Take your time on alignment in Step 3.
Step 5 — Press and Cure
Go over the entire base of the spoiler again with firm hand pressure. Pay extra attention to the edges and corners. Allow the adhesive to cure for a minimum of 24 hours before washing the car or driving at highway speeds. For best results, cure in a warm garage (15–25°C).
Step 6 — Final Inspection
Check alignment from the rear and both sides. Confirm no gaps exist between the spoiler base and the trunk lid. Clean any fingerprints from the carbon fiber with a damp microfiber cloth.
Tips for a Perfect Finish
- Temperature is everything: Cold adhesive bonds poorly. Always install in a warm environment or pre-warm with a heat gun.
- Don't rush the cure: 24 hours minimum before washing or highway driving — the adhesive needs time to reach full strength.
- Seal the edges: For extra protection against water ingress, run a thin bead of clear automotive silicone around the perimeter after the adhesive has cured.
- Carbon fiber care: Apply a UV-protective detailer spray every 2–3 months to maintain gloss and prevent UV yellowing of the resin.
